Richard L. Pollard, 89, Shirley, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016, at his residence. He was born August 20, 1926 in Indianapolis, IN. the son of the late Charles Silas Pollard and Pearl (Wilhoit) Gray.

He was a loved and respected family man who served as a signal man in WWII on the U.S.S. Mitchell. He had a keen mind and was an avid student of American history. He was an accomplished leader in the construction industry and read everything he could get his hands on. He loved gardening, animals, oil painting, wood working, jazz and genealogy.

He will be missed by many people; his devoted wife, Alice( Lane) Pollard; children, Sharrel Boike, Sylvia Dailey, Charles Pollard, Julie (Kevin) Richardson; his stepchildren, Scott Ross, David (Luanne) Ross, Mike (Desaree) Ross, Becky (Nate) Thomas , Thomas Ross, Tony (Theresa) Ross, sister; Sandy Pritchett; grandchildren; Anna Hoag, Emily (Paul) McDonnell, Matthew Boike, Amy (Paul) Sacaroff, Katie (Thad) Brink, Charles Dailey, Merrilee Pollard, Justin Pollard, Andy (Stephanie) Ross, Steven Ross, Amy Ross, David Ross, Adam Ross, Liz (Mike) Werner, Tim (Carey) Ross, Tony Glass, Ethan (Stephanie) Glass, Brandon Thomas, Cheridan Ross, Ainsley Ross and Kayden Ross.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Norma Schwendenmann, Linda Johnson; brother, George Pollard; stepdaughter-in- law, Karen Ross and son-in-law, Joseph Boike.

He loved his many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. He loved and admired doctors James Meacham, William Bryon, and Martin See. We offer loving thanks for his life well lived.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, August 4, at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson with Pastor Dan Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with military service conducted by the Knightstown American Legion # 152.
