County officials OK storage facility

HANCOCK COUNTY — County officials this week gave final approval to allow a local businessman to build a small storage facility on North State Road 9 near Maxwell.

John Smith, owner of Smith Projects, a Maxwell-based excavation and construction company, plans to build a small storage facility on a 2.7-acre lot in the 5400 block of State Road 9.

The proposal initially drew complaints from residents in Twin Oaks subdivision, located just west of the future storage facility location, who were concerned about light and noise pollution from the site.

But after working through a development plan for the site, which includes extensive landscaping and a perimeter fence, neighbors and the business owner reached a compromise.

The Hancock County Board of Commissioners approved the development at a recent meeting.
