IHSBCA announces academic all-state honorees

The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association released its 2016 Academic All-State team this month. 

Among this year’s honorees was Greenfield-Central graduated senior Tyler Mundell.

GASC walk-in registration this weekend

The Greenfield Area Soccer Club is conducting a walk-in registration on Saturday.

Those interested in joining the GASC will have an opportunity to register from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hancock County Public Library located at 900 W. McKenzie Road in Greenfield.

GASC is a not-for-profit youth development organization. Since 1992, the GASC has provided a quality soccer program for the benefit of the boys and girls of Hancock and surrounding counties.

Cougars cross-country fundraiser planned

The Greenfield-Central cross-country team is conducting a fundraiser event today at Dairy Queen.

The event takes place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with proceeds going to benefit the program. The restaurant is located at 801 W. Main Street in Greenfield.

Mt. Vernon football camp slated this month

The 2016 Mt. Vernon Youth Football Camp will be conducted July 18 through 21. The camp is designed for players ranging from kindergarten through eighth grade.

Times will be divided by age group with those in kindergarten through second grade practicing from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Those participants in third through sixth grades will train from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

All sessions will take place on the Mt. Vernon High School practice fields. Campers will learn football fundamentals, participate in season-building skills and meet the high school coaching staff and players.

Those in kindergarten through second grade will be part of the MYFL Flag division, which requires T-shirt, shorts, cleats and a mouthpiece.

The camp is full pads for those in third through eighth grades. Campers will be required to wear a helmet, shoulder pads, football pants, cleats and a mouthpiece. Middle school players should wear their pads issued this summer.

Cost for the camp is $20 per person and includes a shirt. Make checks payable to Mt Vernon Football.

Fundraiser will aid military families

Help support military families July 17 at Shelbyville’s Bear Chase in the second annual Helping Hands For Freedom Tee It Up With the Heroes golf outing.

The cost to enter is $60 per golfer or $240 per foursome, which includes golf with a cart, lunch before golf, dinner after the event and an opportunity to win prizes. There also will be an auction.

A package will be available with mulligans, yard sticks, throws and something patriotic, along with door prizes, closest to the pin and longest drive contests will be conducted.

An article in the July 7 edition of The Daily Reporter (“Looking back on a ‘great run,'” B1) contained incorrect information. Aaron Smith and Audrey Smoot are former runners under Jan Hacker. Hacker also led 12 Cougars to the state finals in 14 seasons as head girls track coach.
