To the editor:

This week dedicated volunteer advocates from RESULTS Indiana flew to Washington, D.C., to talk to Congress about saving the lives of moms and children around the world. Thanks to people around the country, there are now 157 representatives and 21 senators of both parties co-sponsoring the Reach Every Mother and Child Act, which is lifesaving legislation that will boost maternal/child health efforts globally.

In order for it to come to a vote, it has to reach the floor of both chambers. Please ask your representative to speak to leaders of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Reps. Ed Royce, R-Calif., and Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., to bring this bill (H.R. 3706) to the floor for a vote. Republican Reps. Luke Messer and Susan Brooks of Indiana, along with Democrat Rep. Andre Carson, have co-sponsored this important legislation. As such, they can be helpful in moving it forward.

You can also ask Sens. Dan Coats and Joe Donnelly of Indiana to co-sponsor the Senate version (S. 1911) and speak to leaders of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Sens. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Ben Cardin, D-Md., to bring this to the floor for a vote.

Your phone calls combined with our visits to Capitol Hill can help save more than six million lives of mothers and children every year.
