Cougars cross-country fundraiser planned

The Greenfield-Central cross-country team is conducting a fundraiser event this week at Dairy Queen.

The event takes place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, with proceeds going to benefit the program. The restaurant is located at 801 W. Main Street in Greenfield.

South sweeps North in baseball All-Star Series

The 41st annual Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association’s All-Star Series belonged to the South.

The South All-Stars outscored the North 28-10 at Whiting Oil City Stadium to complete the three-game sweep.

In the first game July 9, the South broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the fifth, but the North nearly rallied back before falling 7-6.

The South took the day’s second game 15-2 behind a 15-hit performance. North was held to two hits.

In the July 10 finale, the South won 6-2.

Nick Wright (Franklin College) of Bloomington South led the South with five RBI and two doubles. He hit .429 for the series. Kenton Crews (Evansville) of Heritage Hills had four RBI. Hamilton Southeastern’s Matt Gorski (Indiana University) hit a team-best .667.

Jasper’s Cal Krueger (Indiana University), Richmond’s John Cheatwood and Knightstown’s Spencer Mattix each earned pitching wins.

Colts training camp dates set in Anderson

Indianapolis Colts training camp returns to Anderson University for a seventh consecutive year, beginning July 26.

Training camp is located at the Kardatzke Wellness Center/Macholtz Stadium complex and runs through Aug. 11.

Team practices and Colts City will be open to the public free of charge during the duration of camp, however, parking will cost $5 per vehicle. Lots are scheduled to open at 10:30 a.m. daily except Aug. 2 and Aug. 11.

Concessions will be available for spectators, and Colts City will provide an interactive area for fans along with opportunities to win game tickets. For more information, visit colts.com.

Pacers’ 2nd-round pick Niang signs contract

The Indiana Pacers announced Monday they have signed second-round draft pick Georges Niang to a contract. Niang was the 50th overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Niang, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward, played collegiately at Iowa State, where he averaged 20.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game his senior year.

Niang recently played for the Pacers’ summer league team in Orlando where in five games he averaged 10.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
