HANCOCK COUNTY — A wish years in the making for Nameless Creek Youth Camp has started to take shape.

Community stakeholders met at the camp June 24 to celebrate the groundbreaking of a 90-foot-by-40-foot lodge, being built near the front of the camp, 2675 South County Road 600E.

The lodge will feature bathroom and shower facilities, a full kitchen, a banquet hall and a covered deck area.

Nameless Creek Youth Camp is a 12.7 acre facility that hosts youth camps, family reunions and Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops. Organizers said the new lodge will be able to host more than 100 people.

Benny Eaton, a member of the Nameless Creek board, brought a proposal to the Greenfield Sertoma Club in 2014 for a 20-foot-by-30-foot addition to the camp’s current kitchen building, said Bob Benefiel, Sertoma member.

Initially, the club wasn’t interested, he said. But once the idea for the lodge began to develop, Sertoma made a $10,000 contribution.

The total cost of the construction will be about $120,000, said Jerry Bell, Nameless Creek director. The new lodge is about 90 percent funded, and construction is slated to begin within the month.
