Golf fundraiser for military families planned

Grab some buds, grab the clubs and help support military families July 17 at Shelbyville’s Bear Chase in the second annual Helping Hands For Freedom Tee It Up With the Heroes golf outing.

The cost to enter is $60 per golfer or $240 per foursome, which includes golf with a cart, lunch before golf, dinner after the event, and an opportunity to win prizes. There also will be an auction.

A package available with mulligans, yard sticks, throws and something patriotic, along with door prizes, closest to the pin and longest drive contests will be conducted.

Swim lessons offered this fall at AU

Anderson University will continue to offer swim lessons in Bennett Natatorium. All American Red Cross Learn to Swim program classes are open to the community with levels ranging from Parent Tot to Personal Water Safety.

Starting in September, swim lessons are offered each semester on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings, with a new Wednesday evening option.

Lessons cost $40 for the first child and $32 for each additional child. Classes for the fall will begin the week of Sept. 10.

Registration opens Aug. 15.

One-day Dragons cheer camp set for next month

The New Palestine Dragons cheer camp will be conducted next month. The one-day event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. July 13.

The camp is open to preschoolers through sixth-graders. Participants will meet inside the New Palestine High School gymnasium.

The deadline to register is July 11.

Annual Cougar Football Camp approaching

The Greenfield-Central Cougar Football Camp begins July 11.

The four-day youth camp is designed to provide players with a foundation of the fundamentals of the game.

The camp is noncontact. All campers should wear cleats and bring a water bottle.

Participants in seventh and eighth grade will practice from 6 to 7 p.m. each day. Those campers in kindergarten through sixth grade will train from 7 to 8 p.m.

The camp will be conducted at Clayton Myers Field inside Cougar Stadium at Greenfield-Central High School. The cost for the camp is $40, which includes a camp T-shirt.

Dragons’ runners begin training

The New Palestine track and cross-country teams are conducting summer training at New Palestine High School.

Runners meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 a.m. Participants meet at 7 a.m. Saturdays at Fort Harrison State Park.

Training is open to in Grades 7 through 12.
