Food SAFETY

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

June 1

China Inn

Location: 1274 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – all food contact surfaces need to be washed, rinsed then sanitized, corrected; C/R – containers holding food in prep cooler need to be cleaned when emptied and not just filled up with food again, bowls and tongs used to portion meats need to be clean to sight and touch, corrected; NC/R – food prep sink can not be used to wash dishes, corrected; NC/R – gap under door, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC/R – obtain test strips for sanitizer, to be corrected by June 15; NC – cover flour, cornstarch and sugar when not in use, to be corrected by June 1; NC – need paper towels in restroom, corrected.

June 2

AFC Sushi @ Kroger

Location: 1571 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Bamboo Garden Buffet

Location: 2160 N. State Road 9, Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – need to have employee health policy, review with all employees periodically, corrected; C – dish machine water not hot enough to wash or sanitize properly, corrected, service called; C – spray bottles with chemicals must be labeled with name of chemical, to be corrected by June 2; NC/R – need to have thermometer in prep cooler across from grill, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC/R – repair gap at back door, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC – need trash can in employee restroom off of kitchen, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Qdoba Mexican Grill

Location: 2037 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – dirty knife placed on magnetic strip with clean knives, corrected; NC – clean rack near fryer for chips to remove build-up of grease and grime, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC/R – need to have water at hand sink near three-compartment sink reach at least 100 degrees, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Pizza King

Location: 215 W. Broadway, Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – need to have 70 foot-candles of light in dish washing and food prep areas, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

El 5 De Mayo

Location: 209 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – no illness reporting policy, corrected; NC – food needs to be covered in coolers, corrected; NC – no paper towels at hand sink, corrected; NC/R – repair wall and coving in kitchen, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC – exhaust hood needs to be cleaned so it does not drip, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC/R – ice scoop handle in ice, corrected; NC/R – light rods need to be replaced where they are not working, to be corrected by Sept. 1’ NC – dish machine needs to reach 120 degrees in wash cycle, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC – need to clean under grill/fryers, prep table and two tall refrigeration units, also legs/wheels of equipment, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Papa Murphy’s Take N Bake

Location: 188 E. New Road, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Casey’s General Store

Location: 1133 E. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – lunch meat not date marked when package opened, pepperoni not date marked in consistent manner as other products, corrected; C –need to wash hands and re-glove before handling food after handling drawers, paper, etc., corrected; NC – garnishes for sandwiches – tomato, lettuce, pickles, etc. – need to be protected from contamination, need to package or cover in some manner, to be corrected in 30 days; NC – need thermometer for customer self-service cooler, to be corrected by Sept. 1; need sanitizer strips, to be corrected by June 13.

Ben’s Soft Pretzels

Location: 1965 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – no paper towels at hand sink, corrected as soon as possible; C – pretzel dogs need to be held at 135 degrees or log system of time in/time out, corrected; NC/R – provide food thermometers, to be corrected by Oct. 1.
