The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

May 27

O’Charley’s

Location: 1993 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – protect food from cross contamination – be sure to wash, rinse and sanitize cutting board before using for a ready-to-eat food; be sure to separate food such as chicken and broccoli during prep procedures, corrected; C – all foods cold-held should be held at 41 degrees or lower: milk in cooler, chicken in grill drawers, sour cream, tartar sauce, cole slaw, etc., to warm, corrected; C – dish machine not dispensing sanitizing solution to correct concentration, corrected; NC – ice scoop cannot be stored directly in ice to prevent contamination in bar area, corrected; NC – hot water in restrooms is not at 100 degrees or higher, which is required, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

Dave’s Meat Market

Location: 333 S. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC – eggs from farmer need to have date packaged, all repackaged food needs to have statement “repackaged by Dave’s Meat Market,” to be corrected by Aug. 1; C – water dripping in case and walk-in cooler, wipe down and keep food covered until dripping has stopped, to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC – no sanitizer in bucket used for counters, too much sanitizer in bucket used for slicers, corrected; NC – calibrate food thermometer, to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC – food debris on handle of utensils, corrected; C/R – must wash hands after touching face before touching gloves, corrected; C – slicers need to be cleaned every four hours, corrected.

Location: 2001 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – date mark Great American Deli and Deli Express sandwiches, corrected; C – cheese, sour cream expired, corrected/discarded; C – must sanitize tongs, pans, etc., after washing and rinsing, to be corrected by May 31; NC – need sanitizing test strips, to be corrected by June 10; NC – ice scoop cannot be stored in ice, to be corrected by May 31; NC/R – invert spoons so handles are touched and not the eating surface, to be corrected by May 31; NC/R – gap under black door, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Violations found: NC/R – a ware washing sink cannot be used for hand washing or as a service sink, install hand sink in food prep area, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC/R – nonfood contact surfaces or equipment that is exposed to splash, spillage or other food soiling shall be constructed of nonabsorbent smooth material, to be corrected by Sept. 14; NC – must have thermometers in all refrigeration units, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC – obtain test strips for quart sanitizer.

Location: 1550 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – must have symptom/illness reporting policy, to be corrected by Sept. 1; C/R – certified food handler cannot be owner, must be full time employee, to be corrected by Sept. 1; C/R – chicken and beef in containers on ice are not cold enough, corrected; NC/R – repair wall coverings and coving, to be corrected by Sept. 1; C – employee seen cutting lemons without gloves, corrected; NC – back door open for no reason, corrected; C – unmarked chemical bottle by 3- compartment sink, corrected; NC – handle of scoop in ice, corrected.

Location: 1618 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – need certified food handler, cannot be one person for multiple locations, to be corrected by Sept. 1; C – sanitizing solution not testing strong enough, to be corrected by June 1; NC – light bulbs need to have shield/sleeve to protect prep area, to be corrected by Sept. 1; C – expired chocolate milk, corrected; NC – food thermometer not calibrated, to be corrected by Sept. 1.
