Russell Athletic will sponsor New Palestine

According to New Palestine head football coach Kyle Ralph, the Dragons will gain some hefty support beginning in 2016-17.

On June 7, Ralph broke the news on Twitter.

“Proud to announce New Pal football has been chosen as the first and only nationally sponsored program by @Russell Athletic from over 100 teams.”

When reached for comment June 7, Ralph noted final details were still pending in addition to the final drafting of the sponsorship contract.

According to sources, Russell Athletic, which formerly supplied Major League Baseball from 1992-97 and is in sponsorship with Little League Baseball, will provide athletic apparel. The clothing will range from jerseys to polos and other branded items.

The official contract agreement is projected to be reviewed and finalized this summer.

One-day Dragons cheer camp set for next month

The New Palestine Dragons cheer camp will be conducted next month. The one-day event will take place on July 13 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The camp is open to preschoolers through sixth-graders. Participants will meet inside the New Palestine High School gymnasium.

The deadline to register is July 11.

Annual Cougar Football Camp approaching

The Greenfield-Central Cougar Football Camp begins July 11.

The four-day youth camp is designed to provide players with a foundation of the fundamentals of the game.

The camp is noncontact. All campers should wear cleats and bring a water bottle.

Participants in seventh and eighth grade will practice from 6 to 7 p.m. each day. Those campers in kindergarten through sixth grade will train from 7 to 8 p.m.

The camp will be conducted at Clayton Myers Field inside Cougar Stadium at Greenfield-Central High School. The cost for the camp is $40, which includes a camp T-shirt.

Sign up for Marauders Youth Soccer Camp

The 17th annual Marauder Youth Soccer Camp will be July 11 to 15 at the Mt. Vernon High School soccer complex.

The camp is designed for boys and girls players in first through eighth grades and is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at 7 p.m. each day.

The camp is $60, with payment through check only.

Camp awards and certificates will be presented to participants. Campers also will receive a T-shirt.

Marauder camp director Steve Williams, assistant director Matt Mayhew and Mt. Vernon varsity players will instruct campers in basic fundamentals.

Dragons’ runners begin training

The New Palestine track and cross-country teams are conducting summer training at New Palestine High School.

Runners meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 a.m. Participants meet at 7 a.m. Saturdays at Fort Harrison State Park.

Training is open to in Grades 7 through 12.
