GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Board of Commissioners is recommending three new jail officers and one narcotics detective be added to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department roster.

The recommendation comes as part of the annual budgeting process for 2017. The board unanimously finalized its recommendation Tuesday during a hearing.

The sheriff’s department requested to hire an additional detective to handle drug investigations and four new jail officers because of overcrowding at the facility.

The commissioner’s recommendation now heads to the Hancock County Council for final approval. The council will decide whether funds will be available next year to make the hires.
