Greenfield-Central sets youth basketball camps

The Greenfield-Central girls basketball program is conducting a youth basketball camp this summer.

The camp runs from June 6 to 9 inside the Greenfield-Central Fieldhouse.

The event is designed to teach fundamental skill development and competition with an emphasis on shooting, ball handling, passing and defensive positioning. Every camper will receive a basketball and a camp shirt.

The camp is for elementary and middle school participants with incoming kindergarten and first and second graders set to practice from 8 to 9 a.m.

Incoming third, fourth and fifth graders will train from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. while incoming sixth, seventh and eighth graders will go from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

The cost for the camp is $50. Checks must be made payable to Greenfield-Central Girls Basketball.

Mt. Vernon volleyball camp approaching

Mt. Vernon is hosting a summer volleyball camp from Monday through June 9.

The Mt. Vernon coaching staff along with members of the varsity volleyball team will provide instruction to boys and girls in the fundamentals and basic knowledge of the sport.

Each participant will receive a camp shirt. Two sessions are available. Students in second through fifth grade will train from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Those in sixth through eighth grade will practice from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Both sessions will be inside the Mt. Vernon High School auxiliary gym.

Sign up for 3-on-3 hoops tournament

The New Pal Classic, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament sponsored by Skyline Hoops, will be June 25 at New Palestine High School.

There is a $100 entry fee with a portion of the proceeds going to New Palestine Dragons basketball.

Greenfield soccer club to host 4-day camp

The Greenfield Area Soccer Club is celebrating eight years of soccer camp with a four-day event, beginning June 13.

The focus of this camp is to create an environment in which children of all skill levels and abilities will learn ways of improving their game and have fun at the same time.

The camp runs from June 13 to 16 at Brandywine Park at 900 East Davis Road in Greenfield.

Players ages 5 to 14 can participate. The camp is scheduled to go from 6 to 7:30 p.m. each day. The cost is $50 per person.

Area athletes playing in Hoosier Gym classic

Historic Hoosier Gym will once again be the site of the Hoosiers’ Reunion All-Star Classic. The 11th annual girls and boys doubleheader classic will take place June 3.

The girls game starts at 6 p.m. The boys game follows at 8 p.m.

Mt. Vernon’s Ariana Sandefur, an IU-Southeast recruit, and Greenfield-Central’s Tate Hall, a University of Indianapolis commit, will participate.
