The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

May 6

Subway

Location: 323 S. Oak St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Sunrise Bakery

Location: 101 W. Broadway, Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – need to have current certified food handler (manager), to be corrected by Aug. 6; C – no employee health policy, corrected; C – working spray bottles used to store chemicals/toxic materials must be labeled with common names, corrected; NC – hand sink needs to have hot water faucet turned on, needs repair, to be corrected by Aug. 6; NC – sanitizing test strips must be used each time solution is made, corrected; NC – thermometer in prep cooler is broken, to be corrected by Aug. 6; NC/R – food temperature measuring devices need to be provided and readily accessible, to be corrected by Aug. 6; NC – clean fan in ware-washing equipment area, three-compartment sink and hood and grates to remove build-up of dust and grime, to be corrected by Aug. 6.

Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt

Location: 1917 Melody Lane, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – ready-to-eat potentially hazardous food such as frozen ice cream/yogurt needs to be date-marked, create a method such as a logging system to track batch and cleaning frequency, to be corrected by June 6; C – sanitizing solution is not dispensing correctly (too low), to be corrected by May 6; C – sanitizing bucket should not be stored in hand sink, corrected; NC/R – hand washing sink in back/prep area is not up to temperature, to be corrected by Aug. 6; NC – wiping cloths need to be stored in sanitizing solution between uses, corrected.

Florida Cracker BBQ

Location: 812 S. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – sanitizing solution too strong, corrected; NC – meat stored in freezer needs to be covered to protect from contamination, to be corrected by May 9; NC – prep counter/cooler needs to be cleaned to remove food residue and other debris, to be corrected by Aug. 9.

Jimmy John’s

Location: 1310 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Dairy Queen

Location: 346 W. Broadway, Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – held grilled chicken sandwiches not hot enough, corrected; C – no sanitizing solution available, to be corrected by May 10: C – ants observed at Turbo Chef cubby area next to fryer, need to clean area, monitor pests and repair coving, to be corrected by Aug. 10; NC – ice cream scoop at drive-thru needs to be protected from contamination, corrected; NC – wall is loose and bloating, and coving is missing behind three-compartment sink, to be corrected by Aug. 10; NC – clean floors behind shelving to remove food, debris, grime, etc., to be corrected by Aug. 10; NC – need to set up three-compartment sink with wash, rinse, then sanitize, corrected.

Lincoln Square Pancake House

Location: 901 E. Broadway St., Fortville

Violations found: C/R – reach-in cooler and line cooler too warm, place ice going up the sides of sour cream containers, etc., corrected/discarded; C – prepped lunch meat needs to be date-marked when held more than 24 hours, corrected; NC/R – hand sink does not have any cold water, water too hot, to be corrected by Aug. 10; NC – ice scoop should not be stored directly on food machine, must be protected from contamination, corrected; NC – non-food contact surfaces/mixer guard and stand need to be cleaned to removed food debris, to be corrected by Aug. 10; NC – need sanitizing strips for dish machine, to be corrected by May 15; NC – need to clean and caulk wall behind dish machine to remove mold-like substance, to be corrected by Aug. 10; NC – food thermometer needs to be provided and accessible, to be corrected by Aug. 10; NC – need working temperature measuring devices in all refrigerators and coolers/units, to be corrected by Aug. 10.
