Crash damages 6 panels at NineStar solar farm

GREENFIELD — A sedan crashed into NineStar Connect’s new solar panel farm, which sits near the intersection of county roads 600N and 600E, Monday afternoon, causing several thousand dollars in damage, officials said.

Thomas Horrigan, 28, of Kennard, was driving southbound on County Road 600E when he careened off the west side of the roadway, down a shallow embankment, through a cluster of trees and up into the glass solar panels.

Horrigan complained of minor pain but was relatively uninjured and refused medical treatment, police said. He told investigators he’d swerved to avoid a northbound truck that crossed into his lane, police said.

At least six solar panels were damaged. Ninestar officials said they are still working to determine how much it would cost to repair and replace the broken devices; they estimated it would be several thousand dollars.

The solar panel farm is made up of 230 solar panels and cost $310,000 to purchase and install.
