Bean-bag toss tourney scheduled this weekend

On Saturday, the Mt. Vernon athletics training department is conducting a bean-bag toss tournament at the high school football stadium.

The event begins at 3 p.m. and will be conducted inside the high school’s main gymnasium if it rains.

The tournament is double-elimination, with games up to 21 points. The stadium’s concession stands will be open throughout the event.

Cost per two-person team is $20. Practice boards will be provided. Play will end at 7 p.m.

In addition to the tournament, spectators and participants will be able to enjoy a dunk tank, face painting and henna tattoos. Families are encouraged to attend as several teachers and coaches will commit their time inside the dunk tank.

Cash and other prizes will be awarded to the teams finishing first, second and third.

Anderson seeking help for Colts camp

Anderson University is seeking 200 individuals to serve as volunteers at Colts training camp this summer.

In order to be a volunteer, the interested individual must be 18 years of age or older, complete the volunteer application, submit the volunteer application to Anderson University prior to attending training session, attend a training session, bring picture identification to training session (and each time you volunteer), and agree to conduct expectations reviewed in the training session and on application.

Volunteers are required to attend one training session before serving at training camp. Training sessions will be conducted June 7 and 23 and July 5, 9 and 12 at Reardon Auditorium.

11th Hoosiers’ reunion showcase approaching

Historic Hoosier Gym will once again be the site of the Hoosiers’ Reunion All-Star Classic. The 11th annual girls and boys doubleheader classic will take place June 3.

The girls game starts at 6 p.m. The boys game follows at 8 p.m. The boys coaches will be Knightstown’s Bobby Allen and New Castle’s Daniel Cox. The girls teams will be coached by Corie West of New Castle and Tim Young of Vincennes Rivet.

The evening is highlighted by 2016 Indiana Mr. Basketball Kyle Guy of Lawrence Central (Virginia) along with seven other boys who are 2016 Indiana All-Stars. Greenfield-Central’s Tate Hall (University of Indianapolis) will team with Guy on the Hickory Huskers.

The girls game features 2016 Indiana Miss Basketball Jackie Young of Princeton (Notre Dame). She is joined by five other 2016 Indiana All-Stars. Mt. Vernon’s Ariana Sandefur, an IU-Southeast recruit, is scheduled to play for the Hickory Huskers.
