Gail R. Schwarzkopf, 89, passed away at 11:43 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

He had lived in Blackford County until 2007, when he moved to be nearer his children. He was born in Hartford City on August 20, 1926, to Harry C. Schwarzkopf and Ethel M. (Wentworth) Schwarzkopf. Both parents preceded him in death.

Gail graduated from Hartford City High School in 1944. He served in the Army from 1945 to 1946, where he received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He married Marjorie “Marge” Ann (Huggins) Schwarzkopf on January 15, 1950, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hartford City. She precedes him in death on October 14, 2005.

Gail retired on April 22, 1988, from the Postal Service, where he had worked for 31 years. He had also co-owned and operated The Sports Centre on the Hartford City Square from 1974 until 1977. He was a member of the Hartford City Elks Lodge #625, where he was Past Exulted Ruler, the Moyer-Pooler American Legion and Hartford City AMVETS.

Gail will be sadly missed by his sons, Eric A. (wife, Terri L.) Schwarzkopf of Fishers; Roger L. (wife, Terri L.) Schwarzkopf of Greenfield; grandchildren Matthew Alexander Schwarzkopf and Molly Catherine Schwarzkopf.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 North High Street, Hartford City. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, at Keplinger Funeral Home, 509 North High Street, Hartford City, with the Rev. Lloyd Hall officiating. Entombment will follow at Gardens of Memory Mausoleum, Muncie.
