The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are labeled “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

April 22

Penn Station East Coast Subs

Location: 1667 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R – bowls holding ready-to-eat and raw meats, scale used to measure raw meats need to be cleaned so as not to contaminate food products, do not overfill containers, corrected; C — tuna salad needs to be date-marked when container is opened and held longer than 24 hours, lunch meat that has been opened and held longer than 24 hours needs to be date-marked or logged in some manner, corrected; C – clean slicer of food residue, to be corrected by April 22; NC — clean door handles of equipment to remove buildup of grime and grease, to be corrected by July 1; C — certified food handler certification has expired, need to schedule re-certification, to be corrected by July 1; NC – food thermometer needs to be provided and accessible, to be corrected by July 1; NC – sanitizing solution test strips need to be provided and accessible, to be corrected by May 1; NC – floors need to be cleaned as often as necessary to keep clean and free of food debris, grime, etc., to be corrected by July 1.

Avi Food Systems

Location: 1300 W. Anderson Dr., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – need to wash hands before putting on gloves and handling buns, corrected; NC/R – cups for soft drinks should be placed in dispenser so customer grabs only their cup, to be corrected by July 1; NC – wiping cloth needs to be stored in sanitizing solution between use, corrected.

Applebee’s Neighborhood Grill & Bar

Location: 1792 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – expired milk cartons, corrected/discarded; C – prep cooler near end of grill is running warm, corrected; NC — clean shelving where metal pans are stored, to be corrected by May 1; NC – ice scoop needs to be stored in a clean, protected location, corrected; NC/R – daylight shows under back door, need to repair gaps, to be corrected by July 1.

Mom & Pop’s Grocery

Location: 203 S. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C – expired milk in cooler, corrected; NC – rodent droppings in cabinet below table top drink cooler, to be corrected by July 1; continue to clean equipment in food prep area, to be corrected by July 1.
