Welcome Race Fans art on display online

INDIANAPOLIS — As part of the 100th anniversary of the running of the Indianapolis 500, 33 Hoosier artists were selected to create their own versions of the often-seen “Welcome, Race Fans” banners and signs that appear throughout the city during the month of May.

The final products are on display now through May 29 at the Indiana Artsgarden and throughout the city, but are also viewable online at welcomeracefansindy.org/artwork.

Hoosier National Forest offers free kids fishing derby

NORMAN — If you know a kid who might like to fish, the Hoosier National Forest offers a Kids Fishing Derby and Outdoor Day from 8:30 a.m. to noon, May 14 at the Maumee Boy Scout Camp, 12975 W. County Road 925N.

Fishing poles and bait will be provided as needed. Awards are given for the most fish caught and the biggest fish caught for each age group. Other events at the derby include a casting contest, water safety education, bait and fish identification, knot tying and fishing techniques.

The event is limited to the first 75 kids to register by calling 812-275-5987. Participants should be 15 years old or younger and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (minimum of one adult per 3 children).
