The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four time annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

April 15

Hampton Inn

Location: 2271 William Way, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C – sanitizing solution not dispensing correctly, too low, use chlorine sanitizing solution until repaired, corrected; C – working spray bottle of toxic materials/cleaners must be labeled with common name, corrected; NC – food thermometers need to be calibrated and used, corrected; need to rinse washed equipment and utensils to remove detergent residue before sanitizing, corrected; employee health policy needs to be reviewed and posted, corrected.

Pizza King

Location: 237 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: NC/R – shelf by walk-in cooler door and across from pizza prep line is becoming cracked and chipped, current covering not secure and capable of being kept free of food residue, dust and debris, needs to be smooth, cleanable and non-absorbent; clean shelving in walk-in cooler of food residue and debris, to be corrected by July 1; NC – food thermometer with thin tip for thin foods such as meat patties needs to be provided, to be corrected by July 1.

Kinsey’s Italian Cafe

Location: 6383 Broadway, McCordsville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C – employees must wash hands before putting on gloves, employees need to be mindful of what they are touching with gloves on, corrected; C – repair exhaust hood, called in, to be corrected by April 30; NC – adjust sanitizer at three compartment sink, too strong.

April 18

Broadway Diner

Location: 426 E. Broadway St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: NC/R – ice scoop needs to be stored on clean surface, not on top of ice machine, corrected; NC/R – clean racks in refrigeration unit by hand sink and cabinet drawer unit by sandwich prep cooler, to be corrected by July 1; NC – clean floors under equipment where buildup of grease/grime/dirt has accumulated, also legs of equipment/table, to be corrected by July 1; NC – replace bulbs/rods in lights that are not working, to be corrected by July 1; C – cold holding refrigeration units must hold food at 41 degrees or below, corrected.

April 19

Carol’s Cornerstone Cafe

Location: 301 E. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C/R – food marked past seven day date marking, corrected; C/R – consumer advisory needed on menu, to be corrected by July 19; C – three-compartment sink sanitizer is too strong, corrected; NC – exposure of wall studs in new wall of kitchen, need to be covered with smooth, non-absorbent and easily cleanable surface, to be corrected by May 19; NC – need food temperature measuring device/thermometer readily accessible, to be corrected by April 26; NC — need temperature measuring device/thermometer for all refrigeration equipment, to be corrected by April 26; NC/R – hand sink needs to have hot water, repair or replace, to be corrected by July 19; NC — store ice scoop in a manner to protect them from contamination, corrected; NC/R – clean ventilation hood over grill/fryers, to be corrected by July 19.

Ro’s Bar and Grill

Location: 1514 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations: C/R – hand washing sink is blocked, do not use dish washing sink to wash hands, corrected; C/R – need to have food handler certification, need to take manager course, penalties may apply, to be corrected by July 19; C – no employee health policy, sample given, corrected; C – sanitizer not strong enough, corrected; C – sour cream too warm, must be held at 41 degrees or below, corrected/discarded; C – garnishes in bar area should be handled with tongs, etc., not bare hands, corrected; NC – ice scoop needs to be protected from contamination, corrected; NC/R – need to have food thermometer with thin tip for thin patties, to be corrected by July 19.
