George William Campton Sr., 79, of McCordsville, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Community North Hospital. He was born on July 1, 1936, in Washington, Ind., as the son of Ernest and Aldene (Berry) Campton.

He grew up and went to school in Wheatland. George married Ramona “Sue” (Howerton) on July 15, 1962, in Vincennes, Ind. He served in the United States Airforce. He worked for Brookside and Lau Industries in the Shipping and Receiving Department. George also worked at the Indiana Gun Club and Downing’s Restaurant in Pendleton as a bartender. George was a member of the American Legion and United Steel Workers Union Local 6168. He was a member of Woodbury Community Church which is now Bright Point Church. George Loved golfing, fishing, and the New York Yankees.

Surviving him are his wife, Ramona “Sue” Campton; sons, George “Jay” Campton Jr. of McCordsville and Larry Paul and wife Joanie Campton of Shirley; sisters, Judy Kay Campton Garland of Fortville and Brenda Powell of Fortville; grandchildren, Katherine “Katie” and Wesley Aaron both of Shirley; and many awesome nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ernest and Aldene Campton; brother, Ronnie Campton Sr.; and grandson, Jayson Allen.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, May 9, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 124 E. Staat St., Fortville, IN 46040. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation beginning at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association or Paralyzed Veterans Association. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
