GREENFIELD — County leaders prayed for the community Thursday during the National Day of Prayer event on the Hancock County Courthouse plaza.

Frank Klauder of St. Thomas Apostle Catholic Church in Fortville served as the master of ceremonies. He prayed for American Christians to speak up about their beliefs and stop being secret-agent Christians.

Cathy Wright, representing Brandywine Christian Church, performed the national anthem. Later, second-graders from St. Michael School performed several spiritual and patriotic songs, led by music director Jeannie Ellenberger.

Local business leaders, politicians and city employees led prayers for business, families, government, law enforcement, the media, those who work in the medical field, the military and for peace and justice.

Greenfield has celebrated the National Day of Prayer for nearly 30 years, though its current iteration at the courthouse plaza has been in effect for about a decade.
