Dragons, Cougars, Royals in rankings

The Class 3A New Palestine Dragons softball team retained their spot at second in the latest Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association’s weekly rankings.

The Greenfield-Central Cougars jumped to fifth in the 4A rankings. Last week, they were 10th after holding the 18th spot and 20th in the weeks prior.

Eastern Hancock climbed from 16th to 13th in the 2A rankings.

Marauders girls tennis remain 3rd in District 4

The Mt. Vernon girls tennis team held on to the third spot in the latest Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association’s District 4 rankings.

The Marauders were fifth and sixth in the poll before claiming the third spot in the previously released regular-season district rankings.

Twins pitcher Gibson placed on 15-day DL

The Minnesota Twins placed right-handers Kyle Gibson and Ervin Santana on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

Gibson, a Greenfield native, is sidelined with a right shoulder strain following his start on April 22, a three-inning loss in which he allowed seven runs.

Gibson is reported as saying he felt “more than general soreness” after his most recent outing. He is 0-3 with a 6.10 ERA in his four starts.

Run to Remember planned for high school

The Fourth Annual Run to Remember for Zach Lett, Todd Lewis and Benjamin Culver will be Saturday at Greenfield-Central High School.

The event opens with registration at 7:30 a.m. The 5K run or walk fundraiser begins at 9 a.m.

An early race packet pick-up will be available Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at McCleerey’s Sporting Goods.

The cost to participate is $25 per person and $15 per student.

All proceeds from the race are equally divided between the Greenfield-Central High School track program and the memorial scholarships of Lett, Lewis and Culver.
