Donald D. Oden, age 89 of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. He was born on March 9, 1927, in Tipton, Indiana to the late Frances and Edith (Reynolds) Oden.
Donald graduated from Beech Grove High School and later was a Merchant Marine for several years delivering goods to soldiers during the war. Donald would then marry the love of his life Carolyn (Smith) Oden on September 4, 1947. Donald was the co-owner of Greenfield Laundry from 1947 to 1973 and Oden Realty & Developers. He helped organize the Greenfield Builders Assoc. and was a member of
the Life Spike of the Indianapolis Builders. Donald was also the past President of the Greenfield Lions Club (1963-1964). He designed and built Arrowhead Golf Course in Greenfield. Donald loved playing golf, and poker. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Surviving Donald are his sons, Alan D. (Lois) Oden of Morgantown, and Gary R. (Kathy) Oden of Greenfield; daughters, Tina L. (Ron) French of Morgantown, and Darla J. (Dayne) Dickerson of Greenfield; sisters, Joann Stanfield of Indianapolis, Joyce Fowler of Sorrento, Florida; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife, Carolyn who passed away on December 14, 2006; sisters, Betty and Marian; and brother, Frances Oden.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel of Greenfield, 1780 W. Main St. Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 28, at the funeral home with burial immediately following at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
