Speaker to explore evolution belief effect

CUMBERLAND — Dr. Phillip D. Sparks will present “The Effect of an Evolutionary Mindset” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cumberland Christian Church, 39 N. Starter St., Indianapolis. In the presentation, he will address some of the mental health issues facing society.

The event is sponsored by the Creation Evidence Expo.

A free-will offering will be accepted.

A cake and ice cream social will follow Sparks’ remarks.

Rare Bible display coming to Greenfield

GREENFIELD — St. Paul’s Reformed Episcopal Church will act as host to a rare Bible display and presentation on the history of the English Bible on May 1.

Dr. Harold Rawlings of Florence, Kentucky, will discuss the history of translation of the Bible into English. Rawlings, a retired pastor, wrote “Trial By Fire: The Struggle to Get the Bible into English.”

The display will feature Bibles from Rawlings’ collection: an 800-year-old Latin Vulgate, an Erasmus Greek and Latin New Testament, a Geneva Bible and a 400-year-old first edition King James Bible, among others.

The display opens at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be available. Rawlings’ presentation begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

Annual plant sale planned at Amity

BUCK CREEK TOWNSHIP — Amity United Methodist Church’s annual plant sale is set for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 28 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 29 at the church, at the corner of County Road 600W (Mt. Comfort Road) and County Road 100N.

It will feature annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, lilies, birdhouses, primitive wood furniture, watercolor greeting cards, gift plants and large porch pots.

This year’s event also will feature a church surplus garage sale featuring mowers, copiers, kitchen ranges, Nativity scenes, tables, chairs, organs and a keyboard, children’s outdoor toys and more.

All proceeds from the plant sale will go toward the renovation of the church’s community center.

Missionary guest speaker at church

MORRISTOWN — Kyle Bowers, missionary to Canada, will speak in the 10:30 a.m. service April 24 at Faith Baptist Church in Morristown.

Grants available for ministry initiatives

INDIANAPOLIS — Congregations in Hancock and other Central Indiana counties are eligible to apply for grants to help them establish new community ministries. The Community Ministry Grant is offered by the Center for Congregations, with support from the Lilly Endowment. Application deadline is April 27. Gospel singer to perform at craft fair
