GREENFIELD — Bicycles adorned with flower baskets have lined downtown Greenfield streets for a third time.

Bikes in Bloom, hosted by Greenfield Main Street, encourages local nonprofit organizations to decorate bikes to advertise their organizations as well as beautify downtown with live flowers. Twice as many organizations stepped up to participate this year, with 27 bikes to hit the streets.

“We had such an overwhelming response we had to get creative with spots to display bikes this year,” said Shelley Swift, program manager for Greenfield Main Street.

Bikes will be on display April 16 through May 21, and then they will be posted on Greenfield Main Street’s Facebook page, where the public can vote for their favorites.

The two nonprofits with the most votes by May 20 will be awarded a child’s bike, which they can give away within their organization’s service area.

The winners will be announced at the start of the North Street Fitness Festival, hosted by Greenfield Main Street from 1-6 pm Saturday, May 21 on North Street, between State and Pennsylvania streets. For more information, visit Greenfield Main Street’s Facebook page.
