GREENFIELD — The man who robbed a local fast-food restaurant Wednesday night is still at large, and investigators are seeking the public’s help identifying him.

Employees at the McDonald’s restaurant on Mt. Comfort Road near Interstate 70 told police a man carrying a handgun sneaked in an open door at the back of their store Wednesday night, held their manager at gunpoint and demanded money.

Police are using security camera footage from inside the restaurant, located in the 2200 block of North County Road 600W, to identify the suspect. Officers are releasing those images hoping residents might know of the man’s whereabouts.

Investigators say the theft occurred around 7:20 p.m.

The robber came in through an open back door, which an employee had opened while taking bags of trash to a nearby dumpster.

Once inside, the suspect slipped into the manager’s office where a woman was doing paperwork, Detective Capt. Jeff Rasche said.

The man placed a hand-gun to the woman’s neck and demanded she give him money, Rasche said.

The suspect forced the woman to open a safe located in the office, and he pocketed money before running from the restaurant, Rasche said. Police typically don’t release information about how much cash was stolen.

The man was described as a black male of an unknown age, standing more than 6-feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a stocking cap, gray sweatpants and a black sweatshirt. He had a dark cloth covering most of his face; only his eyes were visible, witnesses said.

After fleeing the restaurant, the man climbed into a white Chevy Impala and drove off, police said. They don’t know which direction he went.

At press time Thursday, he has not yet been located, police said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department Investigations Unit at 317-477-1199.
