Charles Edward Crowe, 82, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016, at Golden Living Center — Brandywine. He was born September 5, 1933, in Owensboro, Ky., as the son of Hoover and Leona (Bennett) Crowe.

He served in the Army, where he was stationed in Germany. He married Judith A. Brasier on May 26, 1961, in Indianapolis.

Charles worked for Western Electric for many years before retiring in 1983, and he was the owner of Preferred Painting. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Spreading the gospel was important to Charles, so he began a ministry at Hancock County Jail and Brandywine Nursing Home. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, reading and sports, especially IU basketball. He also loved candy, and he never found a candy that he did not like.

Charles is survived by his son, Charles E. (Jennifer) Crowe II of Greenfield; daughter, Ellen M. (Nathan) Tobey of Noblesville; brothers, Robert and Douglas Crowe; sister, Mary Ann Coffman; six grandchildren, Grant M.A. (Danielle) Tobey, Caitlin M. (Chris) Laurino, Lyndsey Hysell, Jamey Schwartz, Charles E. Crowe III and Ruth A. Crowe; and great-granddaughter, Scarlett Q. Tobey.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Judy Crowe; sisters, Wilma Osborne and Ida Goeke; and brothers, Paul, Mallory, Richard and Keith Crowe.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 23, at Erlewein Mortuary and Crematory, 1484 U.S. 40 West, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will immediately follow visitation, beginning at 3 p.m. The Rev. Tommy Hensley will be officiating. A private family burial will follow at Philadelphia Cemetery in Greenfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent directly to Bethel Baptist Church, 1610 S. State St., Greenfield, IN 46140, or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
