GREENFIELD — In baseball, a triple play is the act of making three outs during the same play.

At the Hancock County Public Library, it’s a little different. Library staff members have set a goal of 1 million checkouts, 500,000 website visitors and 5,000 mobile app downloads for 2016, and the library is offering patrons prizes throughout the year to help them achieve the goal.

The library will give away a family pass to the Indianapolis Zoo in June, tickets to an Indianapolis Colts game in September and a PlayStation 4 in December.

This promotion comes fast on the heels of the library’s effort to get patrons to consider reading even more rewarding.

My Library Rewards, similar to other business rewards programs, tracks patrons’ checkouts, whether they are books, DVDs or audio books. Library patrons earn points for each item then can redeem the points for gifts and discounts at local businesses.

There are already more than 400 library patrons taking advantage of My Library Rewards, said library assistant director Barb Roark; furthermore, there are nearly 70 offers from local businesses available through the program right now, with more to come.

To see what businesses are participating or redeem rewards, patrons may visit mylibraryrewards.com. There are three tiers of rewards listed on the site — third-tier rewards are discounts, second-tier rewards are buy-one, get-one offers, and first-tier rewards are free gifts.

Tier 1 rewards usually cost 300 points, Roark said. Once a patron has clicked on a reward online, they have 15 days to redeem it, she said.
