Douglas “Doug” Edwin Gray, stepped into God’s glorious presence on April 13, 2016. Doug was born in Kokomo on December 10, 1958, to Edwin and Dorothy Gray.

He graduated in 1977 from Taylor High School. On February 17, 1979, he married the love of his life, Susan F. Cook.

They were the proud parents of three sons, Matthew Douglas (and Carol), Maxwell; Daniel Zachery (and Sarah), Indianapolis; and Jacob Allen (and Brandy), Knightstown; and a daughter, Rachel Anne, Liberty. Doug was a doting grandfather to eleven grandchildren, Brayden and Dylan Gray; William and Cecelia Stephenson; Evelyn, Zachery, Emma and Elaina Gray; and Sydney, Ana and Isaac Gray. He had one sister, Dee Gray, Kokomo.

His father preceded him in death.

Doug was the pastor of Liberty Baptist Church, Liberty and a skilled CAD engineer. His legacy will be his love for his Savior, his love for his family and his amazing sense of humor. Even on the day he was diagnosed with cancer, his humor made its mark on the nurses and certainly on Dr. Sekhar, who got perhaps his first bear hug from a patient who had just been told he was going to die. Everyone who knew him will be able to share stories of Doug’s infectious gift of laughter. The family will be forever thankful for Dr. Jeevan Sekhar, not only for his exceptional care but for his kind and caring spirit and to the Oncology Department and 5th floor nursing unit for their exemplary care.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 18, 2016, at the church and one hour prior to the service Tuesday. Funeral Services for Doug will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, 1610 South State Street, Greenfield with the Rev. Randall Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery.
