Police warn of telephone scam regarding bills

GREENFIELD — Local police are warning residents about a scam artist calling and claiming customers are behind on their utility bills.

The Greenfield Police Department has received several reports from concerned residents who say they received a call from someone claiming to be from the city utility department and seeking money for past-due bills.

Greenfield Power & Light issues notices by mail for delinquent accounts; representatives do not make phone calls, Police Chief John Jester said.
