Dorothy “Dottie” M. (Steele) Timmerman, age 85, of New Palestine, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Springhurst Health Campus. She was born on February 27, 1931, in Indianapolis as the daughter of William and Emma (Syrup) Steele.

She graduated from Manuel High School, and received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana Central and her Master’s degree from Indiana University. She married Howard Timmerman on October 26, 1958.

Dottie taught Business Education at Tech High School in Indianapolis and also taught at New Palestine High School. She later worked as a secretary for Bank One in Indianapolis. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Greenfield. Dottie loved her family and really enjoyed being a grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Timmerman of New Palestine; sons, Roger Timmerman of New Palestine and Robert (Lori) Timmerman of Cumming, GA; grandchildren, Amy and Austin and their mother Tracie Amundson and granddaughter Sarah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Emma Steele.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, also at the mortuary. Pastor Larry Gember will be officiating. Burial will follow at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine.
