James J. “Toby” Eads

James J. “Toby” Eads, age 72, of Fortville, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2016, at Community Hospital North. He was born on June 6, 1943, in Liberty, KY, as the son of Lesley Eads and Alice (Whited) Eads-Monday. Toby married Mildred Sue Ann (Taylor) on August 18, 1962, in Salina, TN.

He was the owner of Toby’s Towing in Fortville for eight years. Toby established Lawrence Towing in February 1997, stepping down as owner in February 2007. During that time, he managed as successful business and a productive race team. He also retired in 1982, from Naval Avionics after working there for many years. Toby was the manager and coach for peewee to majors for 12 plus years in the Community Little League. His passion was racing and watching his grandsons race. Toby was the oldest driver to ever win a figure 8 race at Speedrome and still holds that title today. He enjoyed bowling, camping and cookouts with his family and friends.

Toby is survived by his loving wife, Mildred Sue Ann Eads of Fortville; three sons, James Allen (Tami) Eads of Fortville, Mark William (Teresa) Eads, Sr. of Greenfield and Kenneth Joel (Shannon) Eads of Fortville; daughter, Angela Sue (Bret) Campbell of Greenfield; two sisters, Mary Jean Burton of Columbia, KY and Jewell Clements of Liberty, KY; 10 grandchildren, Mark William (Somer) Eads, Jr., Ashlie SueAnn (Zac) Eads-Elsts, Ashley Ann (Scott) Huse, Megan Nicole (Eric) Ash, Keelie Natasha (Tanner) Eads-Howard, James Patrick (Sydney) McDaniel, Carson Willis Campbell, Mason Lee Eads, Taylor Shea Eads and Molly LouAnn Eads; five great-grandchildren, Harlan, Bentley, Eian, Eastan and Emersan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lesley Eads and Alice (Whited) Eads-Monday; and sister, Christine Evelyn Coy.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the mortuary. Chris Dahlquist will be officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Park East in Indianapolis.
