NEW PALESTINE — Three Doe Creek Middle School students received top scores in a recent chemistry contest and will compete at the state challenge.

Ethan Howard, Charles Law and Lukas Song received the second, third and fourth place scores at the Dow Indianapolis South You Be the Chemist Challenge and will compete April 16 at the Indiana state challenge. Nine students from Doe Creek Middle School competed in the event. Winners at the April Challenge will move on to the national competition held this summer.

The You Be the Chemist Challenge is an academic question-and-answer competition created by the Chemical Education Foundation, and the Indianapolis South portion aims to engage sixth through eighth grade students in chemistry. The event partners industry members with schools and organizations in the communities in which they operated.

Students from Doe Creek Middle School, St. Jude Catholic School and Robert Lee Frost #106 School competed in the Indianapolis South competition, testing their knowledge of chemistry concepts, important discoveries and chemical safety awareness.
