Area soldiers graduate from basic training

HANCOCK COUNTY — Two Hancock County natives recently graduated from basic training for military service. 

U.S. Army National Guard Pvt. Michael A. Mead recently graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Mead is the son of Brian A. Mead of McCordsville. He is a 2009 graduate of Mount Vernon High School.

Phillip Carpenter, a 2015 graduate of Greenfield-Central High School, recently graduated from basic training at Naval Station Great Lakes. Carpenter was in a “push” division, and graduated in six weeks instead of the usual eight weeks. 

He is the son of Amy and Rob Carpenter of Greenfield. A culinary specialist, he will go on to Fort Lee, Virginia, for A-School.
