SWAT team called to Greenfield home

GREENFIELD — The county’s SWAT team was called to a Greenfield home Thursday night after a man locked himself in his home with a gun.

Police were called to a home in the 2400 block of East County Road 500N in Greenfield just before 9:30 p.m. after the man’s girlfriend called 911, saying she was concerned about her boyfriend’s well-being.

She told dispatchers the man had made comments about hurting himself, and the first officers on the scene saw the man through a window holding a weapon.

The SWAT team was called, and negotiators convinced the man to put down the weapon and come out of the home without further incident, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation, police said.

About 30 officers from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and Greenfield, McCordsville, New Palestine and Fortville police departments were on the scene during the course of the call; no one was injured in the incident, police said.
