HANCOCK COUNTY – Local officials recently OK’d an update to a computer system that provides geographic images of county property.

The new system will provide clearer images of property lines, said Susan Bodkin, county surveyor, when presenting the roughly $55,000 project to the Hancock County Board of Commissioners, who approved the measure this week.

The so-called geographic information system, which the county council agreed to pay for through food and beverage tax revenue, allows individuals to view property details, as well as local taxing, voting and zoning districts.

The old system is outdated and doesn’t always display property lines correctly, Bodkin said, adding that the issue led some residents to believe their property extended into a neighbor’s lot.

The system can be accessed through the surveyor’s website on hancockcoingov.org.
