Dragons, Marauders invited to tournament

The New Palestine and Mt. Vernon baseball teams will compete at the 2016 Victory Field Classic on April 22.

The Marauders will open the annual event at 5:30 p.m. when they face Class 4A Decatur Central. The Dragons will play 3A Guerin Catholic in the finale at approximately 8 p.m.

Class 3A New Palestine finished the 2014-15 season 21-12 and a regional finalist for the fourth time in six years, losing to West Vigo 8-3 in the regional championship.

Class 4A Mt. Vernon was 10-13 last season, falling to eventual Sectional 9 champion Pendleton Heights in the first round last May.

The Victory Field Classic is a doubleheader showcase that was created in 2008 as an event to highlight Indiana High School Baseball.

Greenfield-Central slates annual softball camp

The Greenfield-Central Cougars softball team will conduct its annual spring camp Feb. 27 in the fieldhouse at the high school.

The camp will be broken into two age divisions and times. For girls 10 and younger, the camp will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., while girls 11 and older will go from 2 to 5 p.m.

The cost for the camp is $35 per person and will include pizza and a T-shirt for all players. The camp will be conducted by Greenfield-Central varsity softball coach Jason Stewart, his assistant coaches and the girls 2016 Cougars team.

The maximum spots available for the camp is 50 girls, so early registration is encouraged. The deadline to signup for the camp is Feb. 20.

Tickets on sale for women’s tournament

INDIANAPOLIS — Both all-session and single-session tickets for the 2016 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament are on sale to the general public.

Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis will host the women’s tournament from March 2 to 6.

Tickets are available at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse box office, Ticketmaster.com or charge by phone at 800-745-3000.

Single-session ticket prices vary from $8 to $16 depending on the session, while all-session tickets are available for $75.

Other than the fan blocks for that university’s respective games, the women’s tournament will feature general admission seating.

The tournament features all 14 Big Ten teams competing in 13 games over five days through seven sessions for the tournament crown and an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 6.
