INDIANAPOLIS — Mt. Vernon sophomore Lydia Tierney is the lone Hancock County swimmer who will take part in today’s round of the IHSAA Girls State Swimming Finals.

Tierney finished 16th out of 32 swimmers in the 200-yard individual medley, and later followed that performance with a 14th-place in the 100 butterfly at Friday’s swimming preliminaries at the Indiana University Natatorium at IUPUI.

Tierney’s time of 2:07.70 in the 200 IM allowed her to qualify for the consolation round. The time was more than two seconds faster than her previous best of 2:07.70.

Tierney also bested her butterfly time, clocking in at a 57.10, five-tenths of a second better than her personal best.

In other events, the Marauders’ 200 freestyle relay team of seniors Gloria Gonzales and Haley Moore and junior Riley Chambers and Tierney took 29th place. The same foursome also placed 29th in the 400 freestyle relay.

Greenfield-Central freshman Carley Logan placed 28th in the 500 freestyle.
