GYBA online registration open for 2016 season

The Greenfield Youth Baseball Association is accepting online registrations for the upcoming season now through Saturday, March 5.

Those interested in playing this season should visit greenfieldyouthbaseball.com to sign up.

Registration also is available at the concession stand at 826 E. Lincoln Street in Greenfield every Saturday this month from 9 a.m. to noon.

Dragons hosting ‘Pennies’ fundraiser

New Palestine High School students are conducting a “Pennies for Points” donation pledge campaign Friday during the boys basketball team’s home game against Shelbyville.

Donations will support the Brody Stephens Fund.

Brody Stephens is a Sugar Creek Elementary student who is battling B-cell ALL leukemia.

Since his diagnosis, Brody has encountered major complications as a result of his chemotherapy and will ultimately need a bone marrow transplant.

The fundraising campaign will pledge your pennies per point that the Dragons score on Friday night.

To participate, visit new palestineathletics.com to access the pledge form and for more information. Students will send you a donation reminder after the game with a convenient link for donating online.

During the game, there will also be a themed basket raffle, #BrodyStrong Bracelets available, “Be The Match” Bone Marrow Donor Representatives will be in attendance, and mobile video message recorders will be available to create video messages for Brody.

Marauders baseball conducting Trivia Night

The Mt. Vernon baseball team is conducting a Trivia Night fundraiser on Feb. 24 inside the high school cafeteria.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with dinner, provided by Kinsey’s, followed by trivia at 7 p.m.

The cost is $10 per student and $20 per adult and includes game play, dinner, a drink and dessert.

Proceeds from the fundraiser goes to help the baseball team.

Regional basketball tickets now on sale

Tickets for Saturday’s Decatur Central Regional are on sale now at the Greenfield-Central athletics office during school hours.

The cost is $10 per person and will grant fan admission for all three regional games, including the championship. Checks to GCHS will be accepted today and cash payment only on Friday.

Single-session tickets will be sold at the door the day of the event at $7 per person.

The Class 4A 10th-ranked Greenfield-Central girls basketball team (22-4) will play No. 9 Plainfield (24-2) in the regional semifinals at noon Saturday. The championship game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

No. 5 Indianapolis Roncalli (22-4) and No. 3 Lawrence North (20-3) will play in the other regional semifinal at 10 a.m.

New Pal gymnasts win big in invitational

The New Palestine gymnastics team won the Rushville Invitational on Saturday, sweeping all four events with 99.55 points.

The Dragons pushed past Muncie Central (93.675), Shelbyville (89.325), Morristown (82.425) and Waldron (45.7) at the six-team event.

Annabelle Dockins won three individual events (floor exercise, balance beam and vault) and the all-around championship. Tara Morey was victorious on the uneven bars.

The Dragons followed up their weekend success with a win against Rushville in a dual Tuesday 97.275-86.925.

Dockins and Morey led the way, again, finishing first in a combined four events and placing 1-2 in the all-around.

New Palestine is now 4-2 in duals and tri-meets this year.
