The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually, and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Dec. 15

Steak ’n Shake

Location: 2121 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: C – all cold foods that are potentially hazardous must be kept at 41 degrees or lower (cottage cheese, hamburger patties, etc.), corrected; C – observed employee touching face and dirty dishes before attempting to handle clean dishes, corrected; C – food contact surfaces (equipment and utensils) shall be clean to touch and sight, corrected; NC – the physical facilities (prep cooler and other equipment) shall be cleaned as often as necessary, 90 days to correct.

Chicago’s Pizza

Location: 1031 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC – clean walk-in cooler door and floors under equipment, along edges and in corners, 120 days to correct; NC/R – ice scoop needs to be stored on clean surface and needs to be cleaned every 24 hours, corrected; C – pan used to cook red sauce has places where coating has chipped off, need to repair/replace, seven days to correct.

Pizza King

Location: 237 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC/R – shelf by walk-in cooler door and across from pizza prep line is becoming cracked and chipped; it needs to be smooth, cleanable and non-absorbent, 90 days to correct; NC – utensils should be presented handles up, corrected; post current certified food handler certification.

Pizza Hut

Location: 1010 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Papa John’s

Location: 1001 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC – food temperature measuring devices in Fahrenheit must be accurate within two degrees, calibrate thermometer, one week to correct; C – hand washing sink by three-compartment sink is for hand washing only, clean and sanitize sink before use, corrected; C – equipment food contact surfaces, non-food contact surfaces, slicer, slicer counter, utensils on rack, container for utensils on rack and utensils shall be clean to sight and touch, corrected.

Two Sisters Cakery

Location: 19A W. North St., Greenfield

Type of inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Location: 10 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: NC – could not locate food thermometer, one day; C – clean dipping well and dippers, clean mixing stem on shake machine, corrected; C – chicken salad, lunch meat, etc., need to be date-marked for disposal when held longer than 24 hours, one day to correct.

Village Pantry

Location: 5964 W. Pendleton Pike, McCordsville

Type of inspection: Routine

Violations: C – expired food: macaroni salad, lunch meat, hot pockets, corrected/removed; C – all packages of meat much be date-marked with date of disposal when being held longer than 24 hours, one day to correct; C – label sanitizing solution spray bottle, corrected; NC – Need a thin tip/small diameter temperature probe for accurately measuring temperature of thin meats (chicken tenders, etc.), 90 days to correct.
