Churches to mark start of Lent

HANCOCK COUNTY — Several area churches will have Ash Wednesday services marking the start of Lent, the period leading up to Easter. Here are services planned for Wednesday:

7 p.m. at Curry’s Chapel United Methodist Church

7 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Greenfield, preceded by a soup supper at 5:30 p.m.

7 p.m. at Mohawk United Methodist Church

7 p.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church

7 p.m. (Communion service) at St. John United Church of Christ, 11910 E. Prospect St., Indianapolis (Cumberland area)

7 p.m. at Trinity Park United Methodist Church

7 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in New Palestine

Calvary offers marriage simulcast

GREENFIELD — XO16, a marriage simulcast featuring Jimmy and Karen Evans of Marriage Today, will be shown from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1450 W. Main St.

The conference features various speakers, including Dr. Henry Cloud, and a vow renewal ceremony.

Cost is $34 per couple.

Prayer service to focus on healing

MT. COMFORT — A Prayers of Healing and Wholeness Service is set for 6 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Comfort United Methodist Church. You can go for prayers to heal physical, spiritual, emotional and relational needs. Inspirational music and prayers for others will also be offered. The Rev. Jeff Trees of Avon will speak.

Organizers see potential for this community service to become an ongoing community service on prayer and healing. Upcoming services will take place also on March 6 and April 3.

Breakfast to benefit global, local missions

EDEN — Members of Eden United Methodist Church will serve breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. today.

An offering will be accepted to support local and global missions.

Weight-loss class offers free preview

GREENFIELD — Park Chapel Christian Church offers a free TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) weight-loss class to new attendees. The class meets from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 1176 E. McKenzie Road.

McCordsville church to serve dinner

McCORDSVILLE — McCordsville United Methodist Church’s next Second Saturday Community Dinner is set for 4:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at the church, 6247 W. Broadway.

The menu features homemade beef and noodles, a salad bar and a variety of desserts. A free-will offering for the meal will benefit the church.

Dinner to raise money for Love INC

GREENFIELD — Love INC (In the Name of Christ) of Greater Hancock County is making plans for the second annual “Love Thy Neighbor” dinner, set for Feb. 13 at Adaggio’s.

Love INC engages Christians to help meet community needs by mobilizing local churches with the goal of transforming lives and communities in the name of Christ. It works to build lasting community and church relationships, manage a database of volunteers, and coordinate all the church ministries to transform the lives of Hancock Countians. Supporter sustain the staff, facility and equipment necessary.
