Mt. Vernon’s runners named to All-State team

The Mt. Vernon boys cross-county duo of Christian Noble and Aaron Rush recently were honored by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country.

The senior tandem was selected to the IATCC Class 4A All-State First Team, marking the program’s first twosome to achieve the feat in the same year since Mt. Vernon’s Jeff Wheeler and Mike Mundy more than 30 years ago.

Noble, a two-time IHSAA All-State runner, also earned the IATCC distinction as a junior. The Lee University signee holds the school record for the fastest 5K at 14:55.

A three-time sectional and regional champion, Noble claimed his first semistate title this past cross-country season en route to a fourth-place finish at the state meet. He placed 16th at state as a junior and competed in the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships in San Diego this past December.

Rush, who placed 19th at state, also was named to the IATCC All-Academic State First Team along with Marauders’ teammate Brian Bozymski.

Mt. Vernon grad sets IPFW indoor track record

Olivia Coleman hasn’t slowed down one bit.

An all-state sprinter during her time at Mt. Vernon High School, the IPFW freshman recently set a new school record in the 400-meter dash Jan. 23.

Running the event in 58.88 seconds, Coleman bested Angie Suel, who set the school mark in 1:00.35 in 2006.

Coleman posted her record time during the IPFW Duals against runners from Butler, IUPUI, Valparaiso, Detroit and Wright State.

While at Mt. Vernon, Coleman was a standout in soccer, basketball and track. She finished her track career by placing sixth in the long jump with a record-setting leap and holds the school records in the 200, 400 and in career points.
