Carol B. (Wright) Applegate, 85, of Greenfield, formally of Wilkinson, passed away peacefully Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. Carol was born May 19, 1930, near Greensburg, Ind., the daughter of the late Arthur and Nell (Harrell) Wright.
She was a graduate of Sandcreek High School in 1948 and went to Marion Co. Hospital of Nursing and and graduated from the college of St. Francis in 1993. She was married to the love of her life Robert “Bob” Applegate for 61 years.
Carol retired from Hancock Memorial Hospital now Hancock Regional as Executive Vice President, following 38 years of service, in various administrative positions. She was head nurse of obstetrics, surgery supervisor, director of nursing service and professional services, coordinator of five expansions, a member and past board member of the Hancock Co. Red Cross., Hancock Co. Cancer Society, Hanco
k Co Mental Health, and the Lone Tree Chapter of D.A.R. She organized the Hancock Co. Emergency Medical Services and member of the Indiana State Nurses Association, the Miriam Chapter of O.E.S. at Greenfield and a member of the Wilkinson Lilac Literary Club.
Upon Bob and Carol’s retirement they purchased Ashorenomore and traveled the water ways south to the Gulf of Mexico, anchoring at the Bahia Beach Del Sol Marina, Ruskin, Florida, where they enjoyed many years of retirement and met many wonderful friends.
Bob and Carol’s home was the “local “gathering spot for many high schoolers, hosting many pizza parties after home basketball games.
Survivors include her children, Debbie (Mike) Hewson, Doug (Phyllis) Applegate all of Greenfield, Diana (Greg) Miller of Warsaw and Donna (Bob) McDaniel of Charlottesville; her cherished grandchildren, Brad (Mary Wright) Hewson, Douglas (Amy) Applegate, Evan (Kristen) Miller, Jason (Amber) Hewson, Miranda Applegate, Sam(Katie) McDaniel, Grant (Shelly) Applegate, Mitchell McDaniel, Katherine Wright, Marie Wright and Brandon Wright. She is also survived by her great- grandchildren, Brooke Lane, Mason Lane, Alexis Miller, Jordan Ann Miller, Jacob Parry (J.P.) Miller, Lane Hewson, Madison Hewson, Jacob Hewson, Reiland Applegate, Avelyn Applegate, Stella Applegate, James McDaniel and Will Gordon Applegate. Several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Applegate, in 2012; granddaughter, Karla M. (Miller) Lane; sisters, Sarah Picker, Willa Boicourt and brother, Robert Wright.
Family and friends may call at Condo and Son Funeral Home in Wilkinson from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016, at the funeral home with Tracy Wright officiating. Burial will follow at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson.
