Ruth Edna (Ott) Arthur, 78, of Indianapolis, died Jan. 30, 2016, in Greenfield. She was born July 21, 1937, in Bellefonte, Pa., to Walther and Maxine Ott.

Ruth grew up in New Jersey and was a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University. After completing her internship in Medical Technology from the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital School of Medical Technology, she worked at both Methodist Hospital and the Hancock Regional Hospital. She retired from Methodist Hospital in 2000.

She lived in Hancock Co., for 24 years, before moving to Indianapolis. She was active in the Hancock Co. Farm Bureau as County Women’s Leader and earned the Farm Wife of the Year award on 1980.

She was the Eastern Hancock reporter for WSMJ in the early 70s and was known for her interviews during the Hancock Co. and State Fairs. She was a member of several community organizations including the Nameless Creek Literary Club of which she is a past president.

After moving to Indianapolis, she was a volunteer for the 1987 Pan Am Games, Children’s Museum and WFYI. She served a term as President of the Friends of Channel 20 and received local and national awards for her volunteer work there.  She was a member of the American Sewing Guild and the PEO Sisterhood. She was a member of the Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene particularly active in the senior adult ministries and missions.

Survivors include her daughters, Katie Lewman of Shirley; Karen(Chris) Campbell of Greenfield; sister, Arline (James) Cox of Bridgewater, N.J. and grandchildren, Levi Lewman-Lockhart, Olivia, Denver, and Daniel Campbell; step-children, Bill (Jacque) Cox, Ned (Belinda) Arthur and Debi (Steve) Hill all of Greenfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roger Ott and husband, Lloyd Arthur.

A memorial service will be held by the family at First Church of Nazarene. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. with service at 4 p.m. at the church following visitation.
