Mary V. Koonce, 87, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at the Ellison House, Greenfield. She was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Detroit, to the late Peter and Anna (Horak) Stokich.
Mary married Donald Koonce on Jan. 22, 1949. They moved to Greenfield in 1960 and raised their family. Prior to her retirement she worked for Hancock Memorial Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of the F.O.P #140, American Legion Auxiliary, Post #119, Sigma Beta Rho Sorority and participated in the Post #119 “Little Players” for many years. More than anything she loved her family and enjoyed traveling with them, especially the Gulf Shores and boat trips.
Friends and family will remember her spunky attitude, her great sense of humor and her willingness to always tell it like it is.
She is survived by daughters, Valerie Hopper (Tony Mayhugh), Diane Jackson, both of Greenfield; sister, Jane Dobies of San Diego; grandchildren, Heather (Marc) Huber, Holly Jackson, Hilaire Chittum, Christine Roberts, Joshua Jackson and great- grandchildren, Mallory Harrison, Macy Huber, Jaxson Miller and Colten Chittum.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Koonce in 2010 and son- in- law, Ronald Hopper.
Friends may call 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., with funeral service at 2 p.m., Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, 1780 W. Main Street, Greenfield, Indiana 46140. Burial immediately following at Park Cemetery, Greenfield.
