Max W. Avery

Max W. Avery, 77, of Knighstown, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at Hancock Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 21, 1938, in Indianapolis, a son of Willard and Margaret (Barrett) Avery.

Max graduated from Knightstown High School in 1957 and then attended Butler University. He was employed by Perfect Circle in Hagerstown and Hook’s Drugs Warehouse in Indianapolis.

Max was a longtime member of the Knightstown United Methodist Church where he was choir director for several years. He was an avid musician, enjoyed classical music, and participated in a German band. He also loved reading, and studying history.

He is survived by two nephews, Brandon Avery of Indianapolis and Brock (Anna) Avery of Indianapolis; niece, Meredith (Chris) McDonald of Knightstown; sister-in-law, Judith Myers Avery of Knightstown; three great-nieces, Lydia and Margaret Avery and Reagan McDonald; two great-nephews, Jack Avery and Henry McDonald.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Avery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. with Mark Haase officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery.
