Cougars win second straight, 8 out of 9

The wins continue to pile up for the surging Greenfield-Central girls basketball team.

Defeating Class 4A Plainfield 40-36 at home on Tuesday night, the 4A Cougars improved to 14-4 on the season, winning their eighth in nine games.

The Cougars were led by junior Madison Wise with 19 points, followed by Savannah Girolami with seven points.

Greenfield-Central trailed 11-5 after the first quarter against the Quakers and faced a 23-13 deficit at halftime. Turning on their offense in the second half, the Cougars outscored their opponents 27-13 to pull ahead for the victory.

Jessica Farrell added six points for the Cougars, which remain a perfect 4-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference standings.

Greenfield-Central plays host to fellow HHC front-runner New Castle (16-1, 5-0) on Friday night in a battle for first place at 6 p.m.

Royals extend streak to three with victory

The Eastern Hancock girls basketball team jumped out fast and never looked back on Monday night, beating conference foe Edinburgh 55-38.

Tied with the Class A Lancers at 6-all after the first quarter, the 2A Royals grabbed a slim 23-19 lead by halftime before taking control.

Emiley Carlton led the Royals with 17 points, shooting 7 of 13 from the field, as Eastern Hancock outscored Edinburgh 32-19 in the second half.

Jenna Smith chipped in seven points while Peyton West had six points and six rebounds.

The Royals improved to 13-4 on the season and 5-2 in the Mid-Hoosier Conference with the win. Eastern Hancock traveled to MHC foe Morristown (5-9, 1-3) tonight and trek to Triton Central on Saturday.
