Robert J. Barnhart, 91, of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, Jan.10, 2016, at Golden Living Center – Brandywine.  He was born on April 20, 1924, in Pendleton, IN as the son of Cletus and Thelma (Clem) Barnhart.

He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1943.  Mr. Barnhart served in the Navy from 1943-1946.  He married Elizabeth L. (Stoner) on Sept. 29, 1946. Mr. Barnhart worked for Shelby Service as a fuel truck driver and salesman for 38 years before retiring in 1989.  He enjoyed gardening.

Robert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Barnhart of Greenfield; daughters, Linda Souchon of Greenwood, IN and Jayne Vandenbemden of Union, KY; brothers, Bill Barnhart of Arthur, IL, Dick Barnhart, Jim Barnhart and Don Barnhart all of Greenfield; five grandchildren, Rob Souchon, Sam Souchon, Chief Petty Officer David Z. Souchon, Major John Vandenbemden and Jenifer Vandenbemden; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by parents, Cletus and Thelma (Clem) Barnhart.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan.14, 2016, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140.  A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 11 a.m.  Pastor David Woods will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Washington Park East in Indianapolis.
