Gladys R. (Greer) Murray, 92, of Greenfield, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Hancock Regional Hospital. She was born on Nov. 2, 1923, in New Castle, as the daughter of Philip and Estelle Maine (Singleton) Greer.

She graduated from New Castle High School and attended Olivet Nazarene College. Gladys married Herbert F. Murray on May 23, 1947, in New Castle.

She was co-owner of Herb Murray Bonding Agency for 42 years. She also worked for Morris Plan and Capital Paper in Indianapolis and J.J. Newberry’s in New Castle. She was a past member of New Castle First Church of the Nazarene, Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene and currently, Victorious Life Church of the Nazarene. Gladys treasured spending time with her family and family traditions.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska and the Holy Land where she was baptized in the Jordan River.

Gladys is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Schisler of Greenfield, Susan (Kirby) Popplewell of Indianapolis, Judy (Mike) Foulke Miller of New Castle, Valerie Murray of Greenfield and Candi (Bill) Burdine of Greenfield; sister, Mildred LaSota of Bloomington; nine grandchildren, Jeremy Schisler, Jaime (Bob) Axum, Michele (Russ) Jenkins, Charles (Shannon) Hollandbeck, Stephanie (Gage) Waltz, Michael (Amy) Foulke, Jacob Foulke, Trey Burdine and Carsyn Burdine; eight great- grandchildren; brothers-in-law, James H. (Phyllis) Murray of New Castle and Ronald (Nancy) Murray of Shirley; niece, Vicki Shipley of Bloomington and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herbert F. Murray; in-laws, Charles and Ruth Murray and sons-in-law, Jerry E. Schisler and Bill Foulke.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. unitl Noon on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A celebration of life will take place immediately following the visitation at Noon. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery in New Castle.
