Eugene ‘Gene’ Ray Hart
On Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones, Eugene “Gene” Ray Hart, went to Heaven to be with the Lord. Gene was born Nov. 10, 1940, in Muncie, Ind.
Gene graduated from Muncie Central in 1958 and graduated from Porter Business College. He and his loving wife, Sharon, were married Oct. 29, 1983.
Gene proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1960-1964. He spent 18 months in the Philippine Islands and served the remainder of his duty in Omaha, Neb., as an integral member of the strategic air command at Offutt Air Force Base.
He retired in 2002 from Indiana Gas Company after 31 years. After retirement he was employed as a crossing guard at J.B. Stephens Elementary for six years.
Gene was a member of Bethel Baptist Church since 1988. In the late 70’s he was an active member of Fortville Youth Sports, and was known as, “Mean Gene the Umping Machine.” Gene enjoyed watching I.U. Basketball and listening to southern gospel music. When he was able, he loved golfing, bowling and singing. He and his wife also loved portraying Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus during the month of December.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Greenfield; children, Randy Hart (Julie) of Florence, S.C., Tammy Andis (Doyle) of Greenfield, Bonnie Guzman of Greenfield, Kellie Fannin (J.R.) of Oaklandon, IN and Rick Wilcher (Missy) of Greenfield; brother, Ron Hart (Marilyn) of Greenfield. Gene also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Danielle (Hayden), Avery, Brayton, Julia, Bryce, Dominique, Tyler, Dylan and Mya. He also leaves behind his little dog, Sadie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Mary Hart and with a broken heart, he said goodbye to his first grandson, Austin Hart.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at Bethel Baptist Church, 1610 South State Street, Greenfield, IN 46140. A celebration of life with military honors will take place immediately following the visitation at 7 p.m. Dr. Randall Parker will be officiating.
